Technology Offer

A process for calorising of mild steel/Low alloy steel

Type of Technology

Indigenous

Area of Technology

Materials and Material Science

Brief description/abstract (150 words)

A unique process to make calorised tubes with no equals in the market. The pack cementation process known also as 'Alonising' is used calorising of steel tubes and any other fixtures and can be done on mild steel, Low alloy steel, alloys and stainless steels.

Major Raw Material

Activator, Fe-Al powder and refractory grog

Major Plant Equipment/Machinery

Furnace ( Electrical, 3 phase, 440V) 10 x 3 x 4m size upto 1000ºC, Roller pot mill, Hermetically sealed retorts.

Area of application

Minerals, Metals and Materials

Details of specification application

Used for calorising steel tubes needed in sulphuric acid plant and other SO₂ / SO environment, petroleum refineries, coal gassification and liquefaction plant, exhaust systems of cars/vehicles, furnace parts annealing retorts, heat treating fixtures,Lancing tubes, furnace curtains etc

Status of Specific Development

Ready for commercial use. The process is standardised on one foot length of mild steel tube with sufficient coating thickness on both inside and outside of tubes. The calorised tube got evaluated at PDIL, sindri and FACT, Cochin.

Ecological/Environmental Impact  (if any, specify briefly)

No special measures are required
